Yá'át'ééh (Greetings),

Tł'ogi nishłį, Tódich'iinii bashishchiin, Táchii'nii da shicheii dóó Tł'ááshchi'í da shinalí. Andy Nez 'éí shízhi' dóó Tséhootsooí dóó náhookosjigo Ts'idiilyisiitah dahojiní, 'aadi ch'ishikee' dóó kééhwinishtį. I am of the Weaver Clan born for the Bitter Water People. My maternal grandfathers are the Red Running into the Water People and my paternal grandfathers are the Red Bottom Cheek People. My name is Andy Nez, and my roots and current residence stem from a community north of Fort Defiance, AZ, called Rabbitbrush.

EDUCATION: I am a proud alum to Navajo Pine High School. Following my graduation, I pursued higher education to obtain additional tools necessary to give back to our Diné communities. In addition to my Diné upbringing and foundation, I possess a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico in Native American Studies (focus: Building Native Nations) and minored in Navajo Language and Linguistics. I also hold a Masters in Education, particularly in the area of Curriculum and Instruction within Career and Technical education. In 2021, I earned my educational doctorate in Educational Leadership--Organizational Development. During my time in school, Diné language and gender studies have always been the forefront. My scholarship focused on language continuity and revitalization, including a committed desire for equity and justice for our non-gender binary relatives. Today, my primary research remains on diversity leadership, gender studies, and Diné language.

CONSULTING PROFESSION

Prior to officially establishing 'ANÉZ Consulting, the intent to contribute and perpetuate to the survivance and revitalization of Diné language remained alive. For many years, I wrote and spoke on behalf of the state of Diné language revitalization. Soon, I started to produce and collaborate on community-based initiatives that effecutated one's growth to become conversational Navajo speakers. As a former K-5 Diné language and culture teacher, I became more familiar with Diné content standards and the realities of Diné speakers among students and families. Today, through the establishment of 'ANÉZ Consulting, I am able to further my initiatives and collaboration to bring Diné bizaad back into our classrooms, communities, and homes.

Several passion projects:

  • "Diné Language in Seconds" started several years ago. It is a series of video recordings shared via social media to further one's conversational skills using familiar key vocabulary and proper sentence conjugations.

  • Completed a 6-12 Diné Language & Culture Curriculum for a local charter school to assist with producing conversational Diné speakers.

  • Currently a Diné Language and Culture instructor for Phoenix Indian Center; teaching beginning Navajo language to community members in the southwest US.

  • Developing ongoing classroom lessons to help students build their vocabulary skills in speaking Diné bizaad at home and in the classroom.

  • Partnered with VikkiDesigns to create a full Navajo text of a Goals Planner.

  • Conduct ongoing translation services for schools, organizations, and other local and regional agencies, including translating for a 2018 documentary, titled: Moroni For President.

  • Accept invitations to speak for professional development opportunities, guest lectures, workshops, classroom guest, and other community events, such as pageants, conferences/symposiums, and MC gigs.

  • ...and much more!
